We were reading “Heart of Darkness” in my senior year AP English class, and someone referred to a group of people in the book as “African-Americans”. My (old, eccentric white guy) English teacher basically lost his mind and started screaming, “THEY’RE SOUTH AFRICANS WHO ARE BLACK, URCHIN WEED!” my (English) ex would refer to black people as African-Americans bcs she did American Studies at uni. hilarious confusion ensued.
