Help my autistic son get a life-saving heart transplant
Folks, a 23-year-old autistic man named Paul Corby is being denied a heart transplant - simply because he has autism. The doctor expressed more interest in the fact that he could not name all his medications (of which he takes 19), and the the fact that he carries a Princess Peach doll for comfort - than the fact that he has never smoked or drank alcohol. This is discrimination, pure and simple - and this cannot stand.
Please sign the petition, so that he can get the heart transplant that he needs. And please reblog - so that this can reach as many people as possible.
I’m going to reblog this every time it comes up on my dash.
Eugenics lives.
You wanna tell me your ‘Autism is an epidemic!! Autism must be cured!!’ bullshit is a good thing? This dude could die because our lives are seen as less than. How the fuck is that fair? How the fuck is that a good thing?
I can’t sign with a UK address, but you all should!

You don’t know how happy seeing this just made me guys!!! :’)
This is good news for autism detection: a new brain scan can detect autism at 6 months, when signs can start to manifest!
“This is the earliest study of brain development using neuro-imaging.By six months of age, even before the symptoms [of autism] emerge, the brain networks that connect different brain regions do not develop correctly.”
We’re excited to hear this, because as soon as a diagnosis is made, steps can be taken. Plus currently, about one in 110 children in theUnited States has autism, according to the latest CDC statistics, so a lot of kids could be helped.
“Usually we are picking up clinical [behavioral] symptoms at 18 months, some say even earlier… clearly they are picking up alterations in white matter as early as 6 months. It provides the best evidence to date that core features of autism are likely related to nerve biological connectivity. This is really compelling evidence that we should be focusing on connection and disconnection in the brain.”
An early diagnosis of autism leads to quicker interventions and, because this study points out problems with the brain’s connections before symptoms appear,it could lead to earlier interventions. If autism could be found in infants before symptoms are apparent, they could receivetherapies to stimulate early social development and possibly even prevent the start of symptoms!
Sounds like worthy research to us!
NO. IF A PERSON IS BORN AUTISTIC THEN THEY WILL ALWAYS BE AUTISTIC. SHUT THE FUCK UP.
Wtf is wrong with people? Sure, if I had kids i’d want to know if they were autistic pretty early on. But not to ‘fix’ them. I’d want to know so I could impart my survival techniques and prepare them for the allistic world.
We don’t need fixing.
^ I think it depends on how severe autism affects the child though (i.e when children have to be put into residential care for their own welfare/their siblings welfare, or when they’re extremely self-harming due to the horrific distress they experience during sensory overloads etc). I wonder if they’d be able to tell from this scan?
I’m pretty sure this is a misreporting of the science. Nothing from neuroscience that I’ve seen is actually a genuine claim that they can “detect” autism solely from brain scans.
As this isn’t linked to an article, it’s hard to say, but I’m calling (allistic) shenanigans.
Caveat: I’m not a neuroscientist, just an admiring observer of neuroscience and a sceptic of a lot of reporting of neuroscience.](http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lzkp4weATs1qeqb1bo1_500.png)
